The clients requirement was to create a larger more contemporary kitchen/dining area through a complete kitchen renovation which included the dining room. We had worked with this client before, having refurbished their hall, stairs and landing as well as undertaking some external work on their property. In scope was:-
- Convert separate kitchen and dining room into a single large kitchen/diner
- Replace old kitchen units, work surface and appliances
- Fit Instant Hot Water system
- Plaster and redecorate throughout
- Install audio visual equipment in dining area
What we did as part of the kitchen renovation
The initial part of the project was to remove and disperse all of the kitchen units, appliances and worktops, along with all flooring and skirting boards into a skip arranged by us. Once this was done we removed a load bearing wall between the old kitchen and dining area and installed a RSJ to carry above weight of the floor above.
We then blocked up the opening from the old dining room to the lounge and installed a stud wall. This also involved relocating the radiator and redirecting the pipework appropriately. The client also required us to recess their new TV and Soundbar which required us to build a false wall at far end of the room to house AV equipment.
The client wanted new LED down lighting which required us to cut holes in the ceiling to recess the lights and fit new electric points. Once all this work was completed the kitchen and dining room shell was then fully plastered, ceiling coved, mist coated and painted with 3 coats of brilliant white emulsion ready for implementation of electrical fixtures, fittings and kitchen units.
As we had removed a wall, we need to prepare and level the floor for the Karndean flooring, by laying 6mm ply and screed and installing the skirting boards.
Once this was all done, we installed the kitchen units and appliances, including installing an Instant Hot Water System, plumbing of all water appliances, and installing quartz work surfaces throughout and with splash back behind hob. We then reconnection and sign off of Gas Safety Certificate for all gas appliances.
The kitchen renovation was then completed by installing a 4K TV, soundbar and internet connection along with all necessary electrics in the dining area and by cutting and installing lime green acrylic splashbacks throughout kitchen area before tidying, snagging and dressing the rooms with required pictures and furniture etc.
The whole kitchen renovation project, took us 4.5 weeks
“It’s with great pleasure that I reflect on our recent experience with Dennis in helping us create our new Kitchen / Diner. It was a big undertaking and whilst I had confidence that Dennis could install the Kitchen, I didn’t realise that he could complete the whole undertaking; merge the Dinner into the Kitchen, fit supporting joist, and then install with the Kitchen and then complete to a high standard and complete the new room. As the photos show, it truly has transformed our living space; we are delighted with the result. Dennis has proven himself to be absolutely professional, trustworthy and reliable. What I like about Dennis in particular is that he worries about the details and works tirelessly to get it right, and the end result is great. The job took just over four weeks, and during that time Dennis always ensured we were happy with the progress and the outcome, always tidied up each day and we never once felt uncomfortable. Dennis did a great job, we are delighted and I would recommend him without hesitation.”
